Shoun became a teacher of Soto Zen at a very young age. He was a brilliant student and started teaching from a young age. His father passed away when he was still a student,leaving him to take care of his old mother.
Whenever Shoun went to a meditation hall he always took his mother with him. Since she accompanied him everywhere,he could not live with the monks in the monestries, so he built a little house and took care of her needs. He would copy the Sutras and Buddhist verses to make a little money to provide his mother with food.

"'ME" and the freedom from it
When two people believe "I am here and this is mine", they disagree.Fights arise with words,fists,feet and more till they obtain what they want. These are the problems of the "ME", which they do not realize.
When two learned people believe "It's me. This is my philosophy and it is the excellent solution for the serious problems we now have. It is the best and there is no other philosophy that can compare to it", they disagree. They start fighting and people who support them also fight with each other. This fight might be a fight till death. These are the problems of the "ME", which they both might not realize.
